"Constant tension and uncertainty. This is how Jose Trejo, the expedition's promoter, describes it Sea of Ice 2025the first days on the ice of the Canadian Arctic. During 55 days of expedition - 39 of them on the frozen ice floe - a team of three Spanish expedition members crossed 613 kilometers of frozen sea following in the footsteps of the great explorers of the Arctic. Northwest Passage. But it was not just a question of distance: they were completely alone, with no possibility of immediate assistance, dragging their sleds weighing more than 120 kilos, no engines, no emissions, no margin for error.
Jose Trejo from Extremadura, Francisco Mira "Quitín" from Murcia and Sechu López from Galicia made up the team of Sea of Icean expedition that set out to traverse the Canadian Arctic on skis, linking the Inuit settlements of Resolute Bay y Gjoa Haven Its objective was not only sporting, but also historical and cultural: to pay homage to the exploits of the polar explorers of the 19th century, to reach the first Magnetic North Pole recorded by mankind and show, through field experience, the immensity and fragility of the Arctic ecosystem. All this under a philosophy of minimum ecological footprint: no assistance, no engines, no emissions.
From the northern reaches of Resolute Bay to the Inuit community of Gjoa Haven, the ice became their only dwelling place. An extreme route, without recent precedents in Spanish polar exploration, marked by cold, harsh blizzards, bears and history.
