Challenging the Extremes in the Northwest Passage

Sea ice 2025 expedition

"Sea of Ice 2025" is a unique polar expedition that combines sport, outreach, history and culture in an extreme environment. This ambitious project aims to traverse one of the most inaccessible routes in the Canadian Arctic: the legendary Northwest Passage. Participants will face extreme temperatures and ice-covered terrain, in complete isolation, exploring the mysteries of the region and preserving the heritage of these remote lands. This is not just an extreme adventure, but an opportunity to inspire, protect and learn from the past, while exploring the unique and vulnerable environment of the Arctic. We seek to connect with nature and with the history of the great explorers who preceded our journey.

main objectives

Complete route no. 4 of the Northwest Passage.

Following the same route as historic expeditions such as Franklin's, our mission is to complete this challenging route, facing the adversities of the Arctic and taking exploration to new heights.

create educational content

We seek to inspire future generations, promoting values of self-improvement and care for the environment through accessible, profound and transformative educational content.

strengthening cultural and historical ties

We foster collaboration between communities and countries, strengthening mutual understanding and respect for the histories and cultures that have been central to Arctic exploration.

exploring the legacy of the northwest passage
A bridge between Oceans

Discover the historical and geographical legacy of the Northwest Passage, highlighting crucial milestones such as the discovery of the Pacific and trade routes to the Orient. We honor pioneers like Núñez de Balboa and Bodega y Cuadra, explorers who made history by connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Follow Roald Amundsen's route through the southern stretch of the Arctic, rediscovering the path that united two worlds.

ethnographic and cultural recognition
We honor the Inuit people

Whose profound wisdom and knowledge of the Arctic were fundamental to the exploration and discovery of the Northwest Passage. Inuit survival techniques have not only been essential historically, but continue to inspire efforts to preserve this fragile environment. Through our expedition, we seek not only to explore but also to celebrate and recognize the invaluable cultural and historical legacy of the Inuit people.

THE polar crossing
The Sports Challenge

Our polar crossing represents a formidable sporting challenge that consists of crossing the southern section of the Northwest Passage on sea ice. Participants will face extreme temperatures and unpredictable conditions. Equipped with polar travel techniques and carrying their own equipment, they will test their physical and mental endurance, as well as their ability to work as a team, in one of the most challenging environments on the planet.

Inspiring the expedition

  • The Discovery of the Pacific Ocean (1513)The first of its kind: Led by Vasco Núñez de Balboa, an Extremaduran from Jerez de los Caballeros, this was a key moment that connected the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, opening up new routes for exploration.

  • The Elvas-Badajoz Meetings (1524)A historic agreement that defined the division of overseas routes between Spain and Portugal, marking a milestone in maritime diplomacy and exploration.

  • The Polar Sea of Ice 2025 Expedition aims to recall and vindicate the relevant Spanish presence in the lands and seas of present-day Canada, especially in the Northwest Passage. Explorers such as Juan José Pérez Hernández (1774), Bruno de Heceta y Francisco de la Bodega y Cuadra (1775)among others, made pioneering navigations that made it possible to map the coasts of Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. In addition, figures such as Alejandro Malaspina y José de Bustamante (1791)together with Dionisio Alcalá Galiano y Cayetano Valdés (1792)continued the cartographic effort, completing the knowledge of the region of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Pacific Northwest. These achievements left an important geographic heritage, still present in the toponymy of the region.

  • The First Position of the North Magnetic Pole (1831)An essential achievement for global navigation, and a crucial point that our expedition will cross, passing through the same location where it was determined in 1831.

  • The Lost Franklin Expedition (1845-1848)A tribute to the courage in the search for the Northwest Passage, whose route our expedition will follow, paying tribute to those who faced adversity in their quest.

  • Roald Amundsen's Voyage (1903-1906)Amundsen completed the Northwest Passage, joining the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Our final destination will be Gjoa Haven, a key point of his historic voyage.
